FULL STATEMENT
“And help one another in goodness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and aggression.” (Surah al- Ma’idah 5:2)
The National Ulama Conference of the Philippines (NUCP), a national network of ulama and ulama organizations in the Philippines, supports and commends the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for their continued commitment to pursue peace based on justice to resolve the Mindanao Question.
The passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in both Houses of Congress which was signed into law by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and accepted and adopted by the Bangsamoro people through a consultation conducted by the MILF leadership during the Bangsamoro General Assembly on July 27, 2018 in Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao is a milestone towards the realization of self-determination for the Bangsamoro, as well as of peace and development for all peoples of Mindanao.
As we welcome all these developments, we must be prepared and united to fac e the challenges in winning the hearts and minds of the electorate for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in a plebiscite on the 21st of January 2019 and take part in the capacity development towards building the foundation of the Bangsamoro governance.
As NUCP provides guidance and awareness for the ratification of the BOL, it therefore appeals and urges the electorate in the proposed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region to ratify the Bangsamoro Organic Law in the name of peace, development and justice for all. Towards this end, the NUCP, through its Ulama members and affiliated Islamic organizations, shall participate in the information drive for a better understanding of the BOL, and in campaigning for its eventual acceptance by our people.
May Allah (s.w.t.) guide us all in this major challenge in charting the future of the Bangsamoro people.
Done in Davao City on October 7, 2018 corresponding to 27 Muharram 1440 Hijri.
